This service lets you renew a current (not expired) security worker licence. If your licence has expired, visit Renew an expired security worker licence.
You can't renew a Security Guard Under Supervision licence. If you have this licence, apply for a regular security worker licence.
You can't be a member of a police force (defined by the B.C. Police Act).
You may be eligible if you:
If a have a criminal record, you may still apply to renew your licence. Your application may go through a risk assessment to determine if you can have a licence.
You need your licence number. If you renew online, you need an access code. You get this to your email 3 months before your licence expires.
If you didn't get the access code:
If your citizenship has changed since the last time you applied
One document that shows you can work or study in Canada:
If you became a peace officer since the last time you applied
You'll need a letter from your supervisor. Follow the guidelines in section 2.5.4 of the Security Licensing Process and Licence Conditions Policies.
If you've been treated for a mental health condition
If it has been more than 5 years since you submitted your photo
You'll need a passport-quality headshot from the past 12 months. This means:
If your renewal is approved, you can expect to get your renewed licence up to 6 weeks after you apply. It could take longer if:

Renewal fees for 1, 2 or 3 year licences

You can't pay by debit-credit card, personal cheque or business cheque

Fingerprints are required again, after being suspended during the COVID-19 pandemic.
You must submit fingerprints if you haven't before. For example, if you had an exemption during the pandemic.
Otherwise, you can skip this step.

If you've ever been treated for a mental health condition, a doctor must complete the Mental Health Condition Form (PDF, 271KB). You will be asked to submit this with your renewal application.
You can renew online or by mail. Renewing online takes 15 minutes and is the fastest way to get your licence.
